Marches Community Enterprise

Aims to support existing social and community enterprises and co-operative organisations and to develop the potential for new enterprises.

We believe that enterprising people within rural communities understand best the needs of those communities and how to meet them, and that supporting entrepreneurial spirit and community led enterprise models holds many of the solutions to rural decline.

Our membership

Our members are drawn from the voluntary, co-operative, private and statutory sectors throughout Shropshire and the Marches. Membership is open toany org anisation or individual wanting to contribute to the development of the social enterprise and co-operative sector. The emphasis of the Marches Community Enterprise Network will be on:-

  • Generating local jobs for local people.
  • Attracting resources in order to stimulate social enterprise development.
  • Adding value as a network organisation by effectively using existing expertise, particularly in the rural context.
  • Facilitating and nurturing new ideas.
  • Providing a network infrastructure for skills and information exchange mentoring and support.
  • Identifying niche opportunities for social enterprise and co-operative.
  • Undertaking research for the development of the sector.

First Steps

Marches Community Enterprise is a new and emerging network. At the current time we are concentrating our energies into five key areas of work:-

1. Developing our membership base.

2. Securing funding to support our work.

3. Undertaking an audit of existing skills, services and projects able to offer support to new and developing schemes.

4. Developing a website and an information bulletin for members of what is happening locally and nationally.

5. Raising the profile of rural social enterprise at local and regional level.
