The Roy Fletcher Centre
What is the Roy Fletcher Centre?
The Roy Fletcher Centre is a charitable company which operates the Roy Fletcher Centre building and Fletcher House where it provides low cost office space and meeting rooms for other charities.
The Roy Fletcher Centre was established by the Roy Fletcher Charitable Trust which was set up by Roy Fletcher, builder and philanthropist of Shrewsbury. The Trust, administered by Roy Fletcher’s son and daughters, acquired and converted the former Livesey Printing Works to fulfil their father’s unrealised dream of providing a Centre for caring and charitable voluntary organisations in Shrewsbury. He wanted them to have a place where they could all be under the same roof with high quality facilities without having to pay commercial rents, thereby releasing more money for them to spend on delivering services to the community.
The Centre was acquired and converted in 1995-96 at a cost of approximately £1.2m and opened its doors to the public in January 1997. It received capital and revenue support from the then National Lottery Charities Board and is supported with annual grants by Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council. (Shropshire Council since 1st May 2009)
In the summer of 2007 the Trust acquired a second building, named ‘Fletcher House’, 15 College Hill, Shrewsbury, to provide additional accommodation for the Centre. Following planning and conversion, charities moved into Fletcher House at the beginning of February 2009.#
